Venture into one of northern Poland’s wild coastal landscapes on this 5-hour private tour of the west side of the Mewia Łacha Nature Reserve. Listed as a “Not to be missed” site on Birdingplaces.eu, this peaceful yet dramatic reserve is a vital refuge for breeding and migratory seabirds, including several gull and tern species. The route requires moderate fitness due to sandy and uneven dune terrain—but it’s well worth the effort for the sheer number of bird species that can be spotted along the way. Wander through quiet pine forest and shifting dunes to reach the Vistula Spit viewpoint—an ideal spot for observing coastal birds and often grey seals resting on distant sandbanks. A truly scenic and rewarding experience for nature lovers.

“I recently did two tours with Ladybird whilst I was on holiday in Gdansk. The tours were around the very scenic Mewia Lacha and Ptasi Raj areas both of which have an abundance of birds and wildlife to see. The many different biomes means that there are a huge variety of birds in the area.
The guide for the trips, Ryan, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about birds and the other wildlife of the area. He helped spot many species over the tours and could easily recognise the sounds and signs of birds and wildlife. He was also incredibly enthusiastic and helpful with the tours - pre-tour information was excellent (mosquito repellent is a must) and he was always eager to help me with finding certain species.

To sum up, this was an excellent tour and I would recommend it to anyone.”

Day 1 – Ptasi Raj: Forest Trails & Wetland Wonders

The second day takes a gentler pace as you delve into the lush mosaic of Ptasi Raj Reserve, nestled on the edge of Gdańsk. This 5-hour walk winds through a beautiful mix of coastal forest, lagoons, and reedbeds, offering superb opportunities to spot herons, grebes, warblers, and perhaps even the occasional deer or beaver tracks. Your local guide will tailor the experience to your interests and help you connect with the unique sights, sounds, and stories of this dynamic landscape. And who knows—you might even find a piece of Baltic amber along the shoreline.

Day 1 – Mewia Łacha: Seals, Dunes & Seabirds

On day two, we head east to the wild, windswept terrain of Mewia Łacha Nature Reserve, one of Poland’s most important habitats for breeding and migratory seabirds. This 5-hour adventure covers sandy and sometimes challenging terrain—but it’s well worth the effort. From here, you may spot grey seals lounging on the sandbanks and witness gulls, terns, and waders feeding along the shore. Rated moderate due to uneven terrain, this route rewards your efforts with dramatic scenery, rich birdlife, and a true sense of wilderness.

Whether you’re hoping to tick rare birds off your list, photograph wild seals, or simply soak up the natural beauty of the Polish coast, this two-day experience offers a refreshing mix of adventure, tranquillity, and discovery.
